How to Optimize a Good Weight Loss Program
How to Optimize a Good Weight Loss Program By Emily J Jayden In order to begin an effective weight loss program, you need to get the best supplements and exercise equipment. Being an educated consumer can guarantee an effective weight loss regimen. Not all programs are able to deliver effective results. Many products on the market today are simply placebos. Any product that guarantees an increase in muscular mass and density without exercise is dependent on the lack of education of the consumer for its success. An improvement in a weight reduction program not only requires the purchase of supplements, but the application of an effective exercise regimen. There is no substitute for exercise to achieve optimal muscle tone. Purchase exercise machines and programs that address the problem that you would like to improve. If you wish to improve the muscular mass of the legs, the application of an exercise program that applies an elliptical trainer would best help to achieve your desired goals. When considering the purchase of an exercise machine such as an elliptical trainer or an elliptical training, evaluate the desired objective. A machine, which exercises all of the muscle groups, is optimal. Purchasing a machine for reach individual muscle group may be a very expensive endeavor. If you are willing to allocate the necessary space requirements for machines that specialize in exercising one muscle group, it may be more effective for a successful program to purchase a versatile exercise machine that exercises all of the various muscle groups. While you are considering a weight loss program, the clothing that is to be worn during the program should be carefully considered. There is a multitude of brand name clothing. You may be attracted to a particular brand of clothing because of media advertisements. Perhaps the attraction to an article of athletic clothing may be due to factors such as lower cost. The most important factor that should be considered when purchasing clothing for exercise is the fabric. The fabric that diverts the moisture away from the body can prevent skin rashes and irritation where the clothes comes in direct contact with the skin. If the skin is irritated from contact with the fabric with the skin, it may be possible that this may impede participation in the exercise program for up to a week. Footwear that is appropriate for weight reduction programs is of equal importance. The athletic footwear that is used for outdoor activities such as rugby or soccer, may be hazardous if worn during exercise in a gymnasium or basketball court. Women may also wish to consider weight loss underwear such as an athletic bra. Men may wish to consider athletic support for the waist and groin areas. The best place to find apparel is a website that caters to weight loss related athletic activity. Ingesting proper weight loss nutritional intake is of the utmost importance to an effective program. Supplements are essential to a successful program. Drink lots of water and take vitamins to maintain bodily mineral balance. Any supplements that are to be ingested require proper consumer education. Always read the label in order to be sure of the effects of any weight loss supplement on the body. This article is about fitness and weight loss, products and how well they perform. Weight Loss - Restore Your Hormone Balance
Weight Loss - Restore Your Hormone Balance By Red O'Laughlin Hormone balance is critical to maintain a healthy weight. A large percentage of us who are overweight suffer from abdominal obesity - a very risky kind of body fat. Men with low levels of free testosterone find it extremely difficult to lose weight, especially belly fat. This becomes exacerbated if they also have excess estrogen combined with low levels of free testosterone (hormone imbalance). Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) levels also impact fat retention in your abdominal region. Low levels of DHEA (hormone imbalance) usually result in a higher probability of accumulating extra fat around your middle. Blood Tests to Determine Your Hormone Balance How do I know I might have low levels of DHEA or free testosterone or excess levels of estrogen? The simple answer is a blood test. Your doctor can review the results of your lab tests and determine if your hormones levels are normal. Restore Hormone Balance If you need to restore your hormone balance, there are a number of prescription drugs and creams that can restore your testosterone and estrogen to normal levels. DHEA levels can be raised with over the counter supplements. Supplementation to Restore Hormone Balance There is a way to reduce excess estrogen in men and boost free testosterone at the same time. It is by taking specifically designed formulas of plant extracts which inhibit the aromatase enzyme - this enzyme converts testosterone into estrogen. Additionally, these plant extracts can decrease the level of the sex hormone-binding globulin. Globulin binds with free testosterone and is one cause of decreased free testosterone in aging men. Restoring hormone balance - estrogen and free testosterone levels - eliminates one cause of weight loss resistance. Thyroid Hormone Levels Your thyroid hormone levels should also be checked. Your metabolic rates are controlled by your thyroid hormone. Those deficient in thyroid hormone (hormone imbalance) can be prescribed appropriate medicine to increase the level of this hormone in your body. It is extremely difficult to lose weight if you have low levels of thyroid hormone (hormone imbalance). The two most common thyroid drugs are Armour and Cytomel. Armour contains both T4 and T3 while Cytomel contains only T3. The thyroid gland produces several hormones - T1, T2, T3 and T4. The different numbers refer to the number of iodine molecules present in the hormone. Non-Prescription Assistance with Thyroid Imbalance Some doctors recommend intense exercise to their patients with low thyroid hormone levels (hormone imbalance). Iodine levels can be increased with seaweed extracts that has been shown to be beneficial in treating low levels of thyroid hormone. Another supplement to consider is coconut oil. I am amazed at the benefits of coconut oil. It got a bad rap back in the 80's and is actually extremely good for you. I use it instead of cooking oil often. Extra virgin coconut oil capsules are also available. Estrogen and menopause Women in menopause also suffer from an increase in belly fat due to dropping levels of estrogen (hormone imbalance). Natural estrogen replacement, rather than horse-derived estrogen drugs, have been effective in weight loss, particularly around your abdomen. Consult your physician to determine the right bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Use the Internet for Researching Your Options The internet provides a lot of information for restoring your hormone balance. I extract it, research it further, analyze it, look further to see if I get confirmation - good or bad - which supplements, treatments, therapies, etc. are good for various ailments and conditions. It's your health - take charge and be able to ask intelligent questions when you see your doctor. Get the blood tests needed to verify your hormone balance. It is a critical part of determining what you really need to do to lose weight. F. M. 7 Proven Weight Loss Tips For Teenagers
7 Proven Weight Loss Tips For Teenagers By Gregory Leanza I'm not going to try to sell you something. All I'm going to do is give you the facts about how to lose weight through safe and successful tips. The rest is up to you. The First and Most Important Rule of Teenage Weight Loss 1. Eat Healthily! Starvation is not the Solution Every so often we hear about a teenage girl starving herself to reduce weight quickly in order to attend a special function, a dance or a prom. The person that I have in mind was about eighteen years old, let say her name was Brandi. Brandi wanted to loss approximately 22 pounds in 5 weeks to attend a wedding as a bridesmaid. She wanted to be noticed by by her friends, and in particular one boy. During that time frame the most weight Brandi could have expect to lose and still maintain her health was about 10 to 12 pounds. In her effort and without getting her doctor's advice decides to starve herself. So she went off and starved herself for until her desired weight was accomplished. What happened? Later, I learned she lost about 8 pounds within 2 weeks. During that time she developed spots all over her face and body. Yes, you guessed right, Brandi was not able to attend the wedding as a bridesmaid. Brandi spent several weeks under the care of her doctor undoing the damage she had done to her body by starving herself. Teenagers, let this incident be a warning to you! "When we stop eating, we stop giving our bodies the nutrition it requires to stay healthy and it begins t malfunction." 2. Healthy Eating is Better Than "Dieting" The primary reason why adults experience weight problems and eventually become ill is due to them undertaking drastic measures or unhealthy weight loss diets during their teenage years. Teen Diets should not be considered until their physical growth has been completed This completion in teenagers usually occurs around 18 years of age. Until that time teenage weight loss should not be considered without consulting your doctor. He will recommend dietitian who would be able to recommend a safe and healthy diet. A diet which would permit healthy growth and weight loss control. 3. Dieting Can Causes Health Problems in Teens? Yes, dieting can cause health problems in teens. During your teen years, between the ages of 12-17 years, approximately 90% of your body frame structure and bone mass of an adult is laid down as a foundation. This not the time to be depriving your body of the essential vitamins which it requires like calcium, vitamins C&D. During these years, even a short period of "strict dieting" could lead to a low bone density level. Low bone density weakens your bones in your later years; they become fragile and are susceptible to fractures and breakage. Teen Dieting can also lead to low levels of frolic acid and iron, both of which may prevent you from becoming anemic. An anemic individual tends to be constantly tire. Their intellectual performance becomes impaired. There are other health problems which are associated with teens undertakings "strict diets", but there are too many to mention here. 4. What Does Healthy Eating Really Mean? Teens, as long as you eat a variety of foods, from the 5 major food groups (fruits, vegetables, grains [rice, pasta, oats etc] lean meats, dairy, low fats) in the right portions you should get all the nutrition you need. 5. Are Certain Foods are Off-Limits? No. healthy eating doesn't mean depriving yourself of higher-calorie foods, like ice cream, pizza, cheeseburgers etc. You can enjoy all these foods and others in moderation. 6. Snack on Fruits to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth Take snacks of freshly slice fruit to school with you. You can also include some Walnuts or Brazilian nuts to munch on 7. General Rule of Eating Well Make sure that half the plate contains vegetables and the remaining half divided equally between protein (meat, eggs, beans) and carbohydrates (rice, pasta, potatoes). When eating pizza, go easy on the cheese and pepperoni an heavy on vegetables and fruit. Some time teens trying to lose weight encounter severe hunger pangs; in these situation they may consider a supplement to their weight loss program by using a natural appetite suppressant pill like Hoodia Gordonii Plus which is virtually 100% pure Are you serious about losing weight? Weight Loss: A Fabulous Side Effect of Ganoderma
Weight Loss: A Fabulous Side Effect of Ganoderma By Ted R Williams Many folk assert that they have lost unwanted pounds due to their use of Ganoderma Lucidum (also known as Reishi). However, in a lot of ways "the jury is still out" on the direct effect of Ganoderma on the weight management claim. But science does back up a link between Ganoderma and weight loss, though not directly. Ganoderma Lucidum is a red mushroom with a 4000 year history of use in Asia. Recent technological developments have finally allowed the mass cultivation of Ganoderma Lucidum. Consequently, it is starting to be used in the West. Scientific studies of its astounding health claims are now underway. Those scientific studies indicate that the assertions of weight reduction and Ganoderma are more a by-product of Ganoderma great ability to improve one's health. An especially superb Ganoderma side-effect. Below are four factors of Ganoderma which improve your chances of weight reduction. 1) Ganoderma is known to enhance your rate of metabolism. As your metabolic rate increases, your body uses more energy to digest food more effectively. To deliver this increased need for energy your body uses up more calories and your fat deposits in your body. This, clearly, can result in weight management. 2) Ganoderma also contains polysaccharides which is a potent component that serves as a detoxing agent and reinforces your body's capability to heal as well as improves your digestion. All these factors can cause weight loss. 3) Ganoderma Lucidum is very good at controlling your hormonal balance. If your hormones are misaligned, due to hypothyroidism or some other condition, then your weight will increase. Using Ganoderma may very well put your hormones back into balance leading you to shed any weight you gained in consequence of your hormone disequilibrium. 4) Ganoderma also improves blood flow. Improved blood flow may help to remove excess water in your body and accordingly any weight gain you have that is due to water retention. Hence though Ganoderma doesn't appear to cause weight management directly, the effect is even better: weight management and improved health! Of course, if you are perfectly healthy with no imbalances, then most likely you will not lose any weight with Ganoderma. Of course, if you use Ganoderma, it may keep your body healthy and in-balance; and consequently, keep you from gaining weight in the future. Of course, use caution when using Ganoderma, as with any other alternative health cures and weight reduction programs. You should see your doctor before using - particularly if you're taking other medicines. To learn more about Ganoderma, I advise you to visit a great site where you can both learn some fascinating facts about Ganoderma health benefits, and you can review Organic Ganoderma products. Perhaps Ganoderma can improve your health with a wonderful side effect of weight loss. Ted Williams is in search of a healthy life and likes to write about what he has discovered. Weight Loss - Antidepressants May Be Stopping Your Weight Loss - What to Do About It
Weight Loss - Antidepressants May Be Stopping Your Weight Loss - What to Do About It By Richard Lipman M.D. Weight gain due to taking antidepressants, mood stabilizers and antipsychotic medications is very common. The issue of weight gain is often postponed when medications are first started -the concept being that it might be better to stabilize the mood and worry about potential weight increase latter. However, after a few months, the increasing weight gain without any change in exercise or food intake becomes more and more an issue. Here are some of the medications taken for depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and panic attacks that may be causing increasing weight: Currently, Paxil is the worst offender, with Prozac and Zoloft taking second place. Some antidepressants may be less likely to affect weight. Effexor and Serzone generally do not cause increase weight, while Wellbutrin can cause weight loss. More than 25% of people taking most SSRI type of antidepressant medications -- drugs like Prozac, Lexapro, Paxil, and Zoloft will experience a weight increase of 10 lbs. or more. Other antidepressant medications, including Elavil and Tofranil and MAO inhibitors drugs like Parnate and Nardil, may also inflluence fat accumulation with both long-term and short-term use. Animal and human studies have shown these drugs can cause weight increase by several different pathways: o Increase carbohydrate cravings. o Blockage of histamine receptors causes increase appetite. o Moving about slower, less fidgeting. o When depression causes weight loss (not very common) improving the depression can cause weight gain. Drugs most commonly associated with weight increase: Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors(SSRI's) and weight gain: The five most common SSRIs currently prescribed in the United States today are as follows: o Citalopram (Celexa®) o Fluoxetine (Prozac®) o Fluvoxamine (Luvox®) o Paroxetine (Paxil®) o Sertraline (Zoloft®) Paroxetine (Paxil®) appears to have the most significant impact on weight of all of the SSRIs. Some studies even showed an average weight gain over time of 15-20 pounds with Sertraline (Zoloft), Fluoxetine (Prozac®), and Citalopram (Celexa®). Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs) and weight increase: TCAs were the most commonly prescribed antidepressants before SSRIs became widely available. They are used to treat pain and for sleeping. There is evidence that they increase cravings for carbohydrates and may lower metabolism. o Amitriptyline (Elavil®) o Amoxapine (Asendin®) o Clomipramine (Anafranil®) o Desipramine (Norepramine®, Pertofrane®) o Doxepin (Adapin®, Sinequan®) o Imipramine (Janimine®, Tofranil®) o Nortriptyline (Aventyl®, Pamelor®) o Protriptyline (Vivactil®) o Trimipramine (Rhotramine®, Surmontil®) Other Antidepressants and weight gain: Other antidepressants that do not fall strictly under the classifications of SSRIs, TCAs, or MAOIs include the following: o Buproprion HCL (Wellbutrin®) o Mitrazapine (Remeron®) o Nefazadone (Serzone®) o Trazadone (Desyrel®) o Venlafaxine (Effexor®) Venlafaxine (Effexor®) has been shown to cause weight increa but not as bad as the SSRI's (Paxil®), fuoxetine (Prozac®), and sertraline (Zoloft®). Mitrazapine (Remeron®) has been associated with significant weight increase, possibly secondary to interactions with the histamine (H1) receptor Trazadone (Desyrel®) is an antidepressant with sedative properties that is frequently used as a sleep aid as well as treatment for depression. It appears to cause less weigh increase than amitriptyline (Elavil®) but more than buproprion HCL (Wellbutrin®). Buproprion HCL (Wellbutrin®) has not been associated with weight increase and is commonly used with some success in smoking cessation. The first solution is to lower doses and then switch to another medication (with a doctor's help). This is not as easy as one might expect. Often people that have gone through some really bad times with their depression and feel good are very reluctant to lower doses or change medications fearing a return of the "blues." Most individuals have very individual responses to their medications. So one has to be really careful in adjusting doses and picking the "right" medicine for the "right" person. For this to work you need to consult with the physician prescribing the medication. Making changes in the medications without supervision may be dangerous. More and more evidence is accumulating that increasing daily exercise, even by 15 to 20 minutes a day may have an effect not only on weight loss but on depression. In a study from Finland, researchers found that those men who exercised at least two to three times a week experienced While experts may not be certain about why antidepressants cause weight gain, they do know that switching drugs may make a difference. Weight Loss in Women Over 40
Weight Loss in Women Over 40 By Sasha Jade Weight loss for women over 40 is a different story than when they were 20 and needs to be dealt with as such. Middle-aged women are not just dealing with slower metabolisms, they are often dealing with hormonal imbalances which have side effects such as poor thyroid function, bloating, fluid retention and weight gain. Furthermore, by the time women get to their forties, many are chronically sleep deprived which is another factor that affects weight gain and loss. Most of them are also shopping and cooking for family members who can often effectively metabolize foods that they cannot. Diets or dieting for women over 40 do not achieve the best weight loss results. The best approach to losing weight for middle-aged women is to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Give your body what it needs to function optimally and avoid foods that are nutritionally deficient as well as loaded with chemicals that overburden the liver. Given the eating, sleeping and exercise habits of modern women this change can be quite radical. It means avoiding packaged, processed foods that are high in sugars, fats, and chemicals and low in fiber and nutrients. This includes so-called diet products including diet sodas. Artificial sweeteners are much worse than natural sugars and can in fact be addictive. A healthy diet for women over 40 will differ slightly to a good diet for a younger person. As we age, the body becomes less efficient in processing carbohydrates. Therefore, in order to lose body fat middle-aged women need to eat fewer carbohydrates. A diet that is high in protein, fruits and vegetables with plenty of pure water is the key to regaining health and fitness. It is also important to eat breakfast to kick start the metabolism for the day. A number of smaller meals throughout the day are better for weight loss than three big meals. This is because larger meals release a lot of insulin into the blood which can interfere with metabolism. You will burn more fat with lower blood insulin levels. Some women may think that cutting their food right back will mean even lower insulin levels, lower calories and greater weight loss. However, if you cut back on your food intake too much you will lower your metabolic rate substantially and retain body fat. They key to losing weight is to eat only life giving, nutritious foods that your body can easily metabolize. However, eating healthily is only the first step towards weight loss for women over 40. It is necessary to engage in regular aerobic exercise and strength training in order to increase their metabolic rate, burn fat and build lean muscle which uses more energy than fat. Sleep is also important. Women who do not get eight hours of regular sleep a night are more likely to be overweight than those who do. If you make these lifestyle changes, yet you are finding losing weight is still difficult, you may be dealing with a hormonal imbalance. Estrogen dominance can cause weight gain which is difficult to shift. If this is the case, a natural low-dose progesterone cream may be helpful in restoring balance. Weight loss for women over 40 does not have to be complicated. If you adopt a healthy lifestyle, you will be able to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight easily.
